My Promise To Practice Self-Love Every Day

I often find myself giving so much to the people around me that I forget to give anything to myself. I use every ounce of my strength to please others and make sure I am always putting a smile on the face of others that I fail to do the same for myself. This then leads to an unhealthy cycle of me expecting others to give me as much as I give them and being disappointed when they don’t. When I say ‘give’ I am not talking about material things, I mean love and effort in my relationships.

I found myself lecturing a friend about needing to give themselves a little more love to maintain healthy relationships but I realised I was giving the advice that I needed more than anything.

Self-love sounds kind of sexy, right? That’s not the kind of self-love I mean though. Self-love can be anything that reinforces positivity towards yourself. It can be anything from basic self-care to taking yourself out for lunch or just telling yourself that you look great today. There are so many ways you can practice self-love but we often neglect ourselves and our needs in order to please everyone else.

Today I am making a promise to myself to practice self-love everyday – and you should too.

I am doing this for myself but I am also doing this for everyone around me. I am doing this so I can be my best self, every day, and get the most out of all my relationships.

It’s important to reflect on why you deserve a little self-love in your life. I deserve it because I am constantly battling my health to maintain a balanced life. Because I am a kind and giving person who also deserves to give kindness to myself. Because I cannot expect myself to love others if I am not loving myself first.

I have dedicated today to self-love. I am sitting in the garden in my pyjamas with my laptop, listening to my favourite album at the moment and doing what I love – writing. I am enjoying the sun and the breeze, watching my dog explore the yard around me and reminding myself that I am doing a great job at life. I don’t claim to be the perfect person, friend, girlfriend, sister or daughter; but I try my best and that’s all I can do and I am ok with that.

I’ve been putting so much pressure on myself lately, physically and mentally, to be great at everything and putting in so much work into everything I do. I have been so caught up trying so hard that I forget to praise myself and reward myself for my efforts. It’s not healthy to sit around and wait for someone else to praise and acknowledge my efforts because it just leads to disappointment. That’s why I need to practice a little extra self-love.

No matter what you’re doing today, tomorrow and the next day, make sure you take a little time for yourself and practice some self-love. If time is an issue, just do something as simple as praising yourself throughout the day. There are no excuses for not practicing self-love.

Love yourself every day, you deserve it.
